"Preventing disease is important to me"
Physicians who love what they do share their passion for medicine in every aspect of their lives. Such is the case with cardiologist Ajay Parikh, M.D., F.A.C.C. Dr. Parikh serves as medical director of cardiology, president-elect of the medical staff, and chairman of the cardiac catheterization committee at Advocate South Suburban Hospital. A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the clinician is also on staff at Advocate Christ Medical Center and is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Parikh was drawn to medicine as a boy in India and received his medical education and degree in Baroda, India, before coming to the United States for a residency and fellowship in Chicago. As a specialist in cardiovascular disease, Dr. Parikh's practice is devoted to cardiac patients and focuses on providing preventive care. He is board certified in cardiology and internal medicine.
Along with practicing medicine, Dr. Parikh has been teaching since 1987, but it is the way he teaches every patient and family member he serves that has endeared him to the hearts of the south suburban community. "Learning the steps that I needed to take [to reduce risk] gave me a sense of control and relieved a lot of my anxiety," said cardiac patient Delia-Harralson. Sometimes it's hard to change old habits, but knowing the importance of sticking to a healthy diet and seeing that it can be done, has helped me to change my ways. Without Dr. Parikh, making these changes would have been a lot more difficult."
"Preventing disease is most important to me," said Dr. Parikh. "I encourage a healthy lifestyle for all my patients and focus on reducing risk factors."
